1. Ferry Company - Retail Operations Team
The Retail Operations team for a ferry operator had increased in size and inherited a team of Onboard Service Managers who had all worked for the company for many years, but who had received no management training since taking their roles.
We developed a series of two day training sessions for the Managers with change projects being completed in the workplace between the sessions. The two Fleet Retail Managers were included in the training and supported the change projects onboard. The central team were supported with a facilitated Planning Workshop where they developed a prioritised plan for the next year, based on their long range goals.
The project developed skills of the Onboard Service Managers and increased their confidence in implementing changes in their areas. Including the Fleet Managers and the central team ensured that there was a plan developed that continued the process of change and supported the managers in their development.
2. Financial Services Company – Management Development
The company had gone through significant change and reorganisation, including a change of ownership. They had identified a lack of experience and skill in their middle managers and wanted a programme that could accommodate a wide range of experience, backgrounds and age profiles.
We developed an integrated programme based on the existing competence framework. The programme was started with a launch event with all the managers and the sponsor from the company. This was followed by three 2-day workshops and a wrap-up event. Each manager received 360 degree feedback from their line manager, peers and staff, which they brought to the first workshop. They then worked in Learning Sets to identify and plan their own Learning Contract for completion between the workshop sessions. The key material was delivered in the workshops looking at Managing the Business, Managing People, and Managing Self.
The direct linkage between the workshops, the competence framework and the manager’s behaviour in the workplace generated high levels of motivation and a means of assessing the impact of the training. The changes in behaviour were reviewed by the internal sponsor and the programme is being rolled out across the organisation.
3. Shipping Company – Senior Officers
The company had experienced changes in leadership and significant business pressures and were aware of communication difficulties within the senior management team.
We designed and facilitated two planning sessions where the key central managers worked reviewed past performance and future direction with the senior officers from all of their vessels. The output of the sessions were agreed action plans for each vessel and each of the central areas, and an agreed central sponsor was identified for each vessel to support the implementation of the plans.
The feedback from the workshops were that they had dramatically improved the quality of the communication and produced relevant and achievable action plans.
